Little Red Dress

Needed more red clothes, so I made a little red dress with a comfy jersey knit.

Made the top by just making a basic t-shirt, and then cuffed and tacked the sleeves.

Attached a (wonky) circle skirt to the top, and added a little waistband. Its fun to twirl and swirl in this one.

Let me know what you think!

Zig Zag Swag

This is another little nail trick. Same idea as these nails, but with ZIG ZAGS.

I used the blue painters tape, but instead of cutting with regular scissors, I used pinking shears.

chomp chomp

So, you paint one layer of nail polish.
Then, cut out the strips of blue painter tape with the pinking shears.
Paint another layer of nail polish on top.
Wait about 5 to 10 minutes for it to dry.
Peel off the painter tape.
Finish with a good top coat.
Voile!

Thumbs up for zig zags!

Upcycled Tie Dye T-shirt Dress

Oh no! I have no arms!
Made this easy dress out of 3 old tie dye t-shirts and an old gray t-shirt. I thought I'd share.
As I said, I used an old stretchy gray t-shirt for the top, cut the sleeves off.

Take three old larger sized t-shirts. I took three tie dye t-shirts (that used to be my brothers), and cut rectangles out of the front of each, like so:

Then, pin and sew ruffles every inch at one end of the rectangle, looks like this :

Sew the skirt by sewing all of the sides to one another with a straight stitch (right side together).
(should look like this before sewing the last two sections together)

Sew the skirt onto the tank top and trim the excess fabric from the bottom part of the tank top. Hem bottom of skirt (or leave edges raw...whateva) and voile! A casual summer dress.
The finished product.
Close up on the gawgeous ruffles.

Art Deco Nails

Wanted to share this very easy nail trick.
Start with the lightest color (I used o.p.i. Did you 'ear about Van Gogh?). Paint a base coat, then two coats of the light color.
Wait for it to DRYYYYYYYYYY!
Using blue painter's tape, make straight lines in different patterns. Paint the next lightest color (I used o.p.i. Monsooner or Later).
Wait for it to DRY once again.
Then make new patterns using more blue painter's tape, and paint the last darkest color (I used o.p.i. Ski Teal we Drop).
Put on the top coat and BAM! Done and done.

So basically, the secret to this trick is........
Blue Painter's Tape. It's made for the purpose of not peeling off previously painted walls, why not use it for previously painted nails?? Glorious.

Color Block Chiffon Shirt

Here's my first tutorial! Again, I am self-taught and in no way perfect, so no hating!
I used two nice and light chiffon fabrics- one lavender purple and some leftover teal I had from some curtains I had made a while back.
1. First, I sewed a long section of the teal and a larger section of the lavender (I wanted the shirt to be mostly lavender).

2. Fold the fabric in half, and use one of your favorite fitting shirts to make a pattern. I used a thrift store shirt that is loose and bat-wing like. Cut and sew that sucker up!

3. Don't forget to finish the edges because chiffon can be fray-tastic. I used lavender string all over, I thought it looked nice contrasting with the teal. Sew everything here nice and slow, even when you are careful it can be a little messy:

4. And there you go, here it is on a person:

Easy breezy shirt... and now I can match the curtains!

Striped Purse

Here is an easy purse I made a few weeks ago. The inside is a silk floral print, and the outside is striped canvas. It is done in a simple "envelope" style, with gussets in the bottom corners. The chain was from an old H & M bag that was busted. Here is another view:
